Activity 2.3.1 Ranchers, Anglers, and Beavers

Six-Point Critical Analysis of Current Event

My blog posting is available online at:

1. Exploratory

Probe basic facts and knowledge found in the reading and video. (What research evidence supports _________? Type up several facts and basic knowledge from the reading and video. Relate this to what you find in other resources, prior activities for stronger scores.))

·        Cattle use to come through the Nevada Susie creek and the native grass and vegetation has come back sense cattle quit being ran though the creek. (Fesenmyer, 2016)

·        The water in the valley has started raising and in the new meadows’ beavers have begun coming in. (Fesenmyer, 2016)

·        With the water supply coming back so have the trout. (Fesenmyer, 2016)

·        With the restoration of water led to more grass for cattle, creating healthier cattle. (Fesenmyer, 2016)

·        Proper Functioning Condition is a long-standing rapid assessment the BLM uses to evaluate the overall condition or impairment of streams and streamside vegetation on the 248 million acres the agency manages in the western U.S.” (Fesenmyer, 2016)

·        BLM’s goal is to restore lands destroyed by various stressors such as drought, wildfire, and grazing practices. (Fesenmyer, 2016)

·        BLM has come up with a grazing practice that would help conserve the land through various methods such as shifting cattle grazing territories up and down stream so that it the plant life has the chance to recover. (Fesenmyer, 2016)

·        Beaver are an amplifier of the recovery in streamside vegetation. (Fesenmyer, 2016)

·        Bever damns hold in water continuously wetting the land. (Fesenmyer, 2016)

·        The extra moisture helps combat things such as wildfire. (Fesenmyer, 2016)

·        Studies have shown that organizing grazing is comparable to if you were to exclude cattle all together. (Fesenmyer, 2016)

2. Diagnostic

Probe motives or causes.  (Why? (Tell your reader why this occurs. Explain the causes in detail.))

·        I believe that the reason for the lack of water/grass would be to over grazing of cattle. Having cattle run throughout an area so frequently would harm the ecosystem.

3. Cause and Effect

Causal relationships between ideas, actions, or events. (If __________ occurs, what happens?)

·        If cattle migration were to be scheduled so that plant life has the ability to regrow, we would be able to have a thriving ecosystem that fulfills the needs of all its inhabitants.

4. Priority

Seek to identify the most important issue. (What is the most important issue?)

·        I believe that the most important issue is the need for cattle to roam in more than one location so that the environment has the chance to replenish itself.

5. Application

Probe for relationships and connect theory to practice. (How does this apply to you? How is this related to culture as we have studied so far?)

·        I believe that the over grazing of animals harms other lifeforms and I believe that it would eventually go down the line and begin to disrupt our everyday.

6. Critical

Analyze how this challenges your thinking/assumptions. (How did this change your thinking? Did it? Why?)

·        I wasn’t aware that bevers benefited their environment. I had only heard of them discussed like pest, but they hold a big purpose. I had heard of knocking down damns previously and now thinking back to it I can’t understand why it is that people would do it (I don’t feel like them being pest would be a big enough reason in my opinion)
