Activity 2.2.1 – My daily water use
My water usage:
- Average the number of gallons used across all three bills.
3,005+2,970+3,070=9,045/3= 3,015 gallons/month on average.
- Household Warter use per month by the number of people in your household.
3,015/2=1,570.5 gallons/person/month
- Per person per month number by 30 days.
1,570.5/30= 50.25 gallons per day for one person.
City of Bellingham, Washington
217 gallon/day per person
Southwest Florida Water Management District
104 gallons/day
Smart Water Mark
136 Liters per day per person
What I learned about my water usage is that I use more than
average. Quite a bit more but I do enjoy baths. Which would explain my water
bill. The other was I had not considered before how much time I spend with the
water on washing my hands. I am a bit of a germaphobe due to be a culinary
specialist. I think what I could do to cut down on my water usage is getting
better about turning off the faucet in between activities such brushing teeth
and not let the water run quite so long washing my hands as though I was a surgeon.
According to SmartWaterMark.org I use approximately 68 liters more than the
average person. I save myself by living in an apartment and I am not seeing the
water bill for every morning they turn on our apartments sprinkler system and I
do not wash my car very often at all. Which you can tell. I plan on when I move
to Vermont this coming December on installing all water saving fixtures into my
home and taking a deeper dive into what it is that I am doing to cause more
water usage and what I can do to try and prevent it. Looking at things such as
recycling sense it is mandatory, buying my clothing that doesn’t involve a
water process such as jeans and over all trying to not purchase as much to overall produce less waste. Our environment is the only one we have, and I didn’t
realize the amount of damage I could potentially be having on it. I also feel as though most of these calculators are inaccurate though due to not probing quite as deep as necessary.
